Mercury
Controversy or Conspiracy Theory
They seek it here - they seek it there - what is it? It is quicksilver or more recently known as mercury.
From a lay person:
Funny that I am half way through reading the book ‘It’s All In Your Head’ by Hal A Huggins and read enough to scare me!
In reading the book and in reference to what was said about the VM testing: ‘When a filling was touched with a meter probe, it discharged (like a flash camera), and the meter gave me (Hal) reading. If touched again a few seconds later, the filling’s charge was significantly lower. Touching a third time gave a reading that was practically immeasurable. Given 10 to 20 minutes the charge would build up again.’
From this I took it that a VM may not be fully accurate after the 1st reading due to the discharge. Anyone know where I can get a Bacharach mercury detector? Apparently this measures the vapour omitted.
There is a huge list of apparent illness and symptoms that can be caused by mercury. The BMA recommend that a woman who is thinking of getting pregnant or who is pregnant does not undergo any work that is unnecessary to their teeth using mercury fillings or having them removed. There are countries that have banned the use of mercury for any fillings. So far the USA, UK and WHO have not said anything about damage to the body from mercury as far as I can tell in looking at their relevant sites.
Neither have the medical fraternity made any statement about the dentists using mercury. I have not heard of a GP asking about my fillings or anyone else’s for that matter. I have started asking my clients which type of fillings they have and I have been doing this for over a year.
In checking also I was startled to find out how many products do contain mercury calamine lotion was one and the dye used for tattoos, although I have been a little wary of tattoos for sometime.
Then I remember also a news item on UK TV where a family who dropped a mercury filled thermometer were moved out of their home and the Enviroment Agency moved in dressed in full gear to remove the substance. They were not allowed to move back for some days.
As far as I was concerned at this stage I still did not have a clue to how much danger one could be in from Mercury. I decided to ring my local council and enquired what was the best way of disposing of mercury, I was advised on no account to put it in a black bag. On enquiring further I have not completely found a company that will dispose of mercury and I have not had enough information from any government department.
As far as I am concerned if mercury has to be treated so carefully why would I want this in my mouth. I had all my fillings changed over the last few years and I hope I am now mercury free although I suspect not.
I am in the process of finding out more information like: How much mercury is in a filling? How do dentists treat fillings before and after? Are there any additional problems from dentists using mercury? How do they dispose of old and waste matter from fillings? What fillings do dentists use for themselves and their families?
By the way I guess that there would be an uproar from the medical professions (including dentists), government bodies and the legal profession would have a field day if mercury fillings do prove to be the root cause of medical or mental problems.
I am in the process of putting more info on my web site to cover this topic.
I know I may have wondered off the point a little …or a lot but I suppose the point is that if mercury is doing so much damage and it would be recurring while the mercury stays in the body can TFT still stand the chance of elimination of problems and toxins experienced.
Chelators such as DMSA are effective in removing all forms of mercury from the body, but cannot reverse central nervous system damage?
So Dr. Swidler said, "Let's take it out," and on the next visit he proceeded to do so. First he gave me 3,000 mg of vitamin C. This is to boost the antioxidants in your system and help nutritionally protect you from the mercury. Knowing something about chlorella and superfoods, I also took chlorella before that appointment, because chlorella binds with heavy metals and prevents them from being absorbed by your system.
As a follow up to this, it's interesting to note there are still many dentists in this country who are putting mercury into people's mouths. I find that absolutely appalling. It's something that should be relegated to the dark ages of modern dentistry. Then again, dentists are also many of the same people who are still promoting the ingestion of a highly toxic chemical called fluorosilicic acid, which is sourced from the waste products of smoke stacks and industrial incinerators. This fluorosilicic acid is mislabeled "fluoride" and then dripped into the water supply based on the advice of half-crazed dentists whose mouths are apparently filled with lots of mercury, because they think they alone have the right to determine whether an entire population should be medicated with a highly toxic substance like fluorosilicic acid.

Can you help?
The BMA’s International Department is asking BMA members to bring spare stethoscopes, sphygs (not mercury) and/or copies of the British National Formulary (up to three years old) that are in good condition, to the BMA. Proceeds will be divided between two charities who will distribute them to improve health delivery in the developing world.
Intercare (Medical Aid for Africa) supports rural health units in sub-Saharan Africa through the provision of medical supplies and assistance. International Health Partnership (IHP) provides donated medical aid to communities in the developing world.
Please help the BMA support these charities by collecting amongst colleagues and friends and bring these useful resources along to BMA Scotland, 14 Queen Street, Edinburgh. Other welcomed donations are listed online.

EC proposes mercury ban in monitoring devices: The EC has recommended a European Union wide ban on the use of mercury in new barometers, manometers, sphygmomanometers, blood pressure gauges and fever and room thermometers. By reducing industrial demand for mercury the commission predicts a substantial drop in emissions.

Risks and Environmental Impact
Remember, inhalation is the primary danger from mercury, especially if there is not good ventilation. In fact, some scientists believe that vapor inhalation from dental amalgams can cause Alzheimer's disease in certain genetically predisposed individuals, although the safety of dental amalgams is still a topic of hot debate. Brief, one-time exposures on the skin (from handling mercury) or even ingestion (it has been used as a laxative) are not likely to produce significant health effects in most cases, but don't test your luck. Chronic (long-term) exposure of any sort can lead to all sorts of nasty effects including permanent central nervous system damage, fatigue, weight loss, tremors, personality changes and death.
Because of the ease with which mercury is spilled, the difficulty of ensuring complete cleanup, the curiousity factor of a room temperature liquid metal, and the known health risks, we recommend that mercury use in high school and freshman-level college courses be discontinued entirely. This includes both mercury-containing compounds as well as equipment such as thermometers.
Laboratory concerns aside, we'd like to see the use of mercury in dental amalgams discontinued regardless of whether there is a health risk to the patient. The exposure of the dental technicians, mercury waste discharge to the sewer during dental procedures, discharge of mercury during cremation etc. all present serious environmental and health hazards.
We also strongly support the banning of mercury in consumer products such as thermometers, thermostats, batteries, lighting, and motion switches. There are equally good or better alternatives that do not present a risk of personal or environmental contamination.
